Atlanta, GA, October 2, 2009. Embracing the severe revenues problems in the state and local government sector as an opportunity, the GOVERNING Managing Performance conference, was held successfully September 29- October 2, 2009 in Atlanta, GA. Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue keynoted the event which was attended by senior government officials from 34 states, 2 federal agencies and 42 cities, counties and regional agencies. The Conference Department, Inc. managed the promotion and logistics for this event.
“We knew that we had a tough sell with very tight budgets in GOVERNING’s target market,” said Conference Department President, Roger Wilson. “We worked with GOVERNING to make sure their program would deliver content of immediate value to participants in the current environment and worked creatively to communicate that value to prospects. On-site, we created an environment that made it easy for participants to learn new ideas, share vital information, and make new contacts useful to their work. It was a team effort that involved all parties including the conference hotel. The feedback was extremely positive from attendees and sponsors.”
The Conference Department’s roles in the event included planning, creating and managing the marketing campaign, sponsorship sales and managing event logistics, registration, host government relations and sponsor arrangements. The event was sponsored by AT&T, the CFI Group, CGI, Cisco, the Graduate School, HP, IBM, NIC and Visa.

Minneapolis, MN, May 29, 2009. The success of GOVERNING Managing Technology held May 27-29, 2009 in Minneapolis, MN, confirmed that with a clear strategic commitment, creatively marketed and managed events can deliver for sponsors and event owners in a tough market. The Conference Department, Inc. managed the promotion and logistics for this event.
“In the months of bad news preceding the event, GOVERNING made it clear that their strategic priority was a first class conference,” said Conference Department President, Roger Wilson. “The keys to fulfilling that vision were teamwork, flexibility, creativity and most importantly, persistence. We tested continuously and developed a “Stimulus Package” that appealed to anxious officials but we also focused on refining our targets and on old-fashioned personal contact to make sure that we maximized senior-level participation. The result was a conference that matched previous years in size and exceeded previous years in audience engagement and perceived value.”
The Conference Department’s role in the event was to plan, create and manage the conference marketing campaign, and to manage event registration, event logistics, and speaker and sponsor arrangements. Arrangements included a keynote by Minnesota Governor Tom Pawlenty and a live webcam appearance by Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Ryback, who was in China on a trade mission. The event was sponsored by Microsoft, CGI, CDW, Google, Symantec, Motorola, NIC, HP, Juniper, Northrop Grumman, Unisys, and SAP.
